Oral Surgery

Oral surgery is a branch of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases that
cause injuries and defects to the functionality of the oral cavity and its supportive structures
such as the maxilla, mandible and the face. The oral surgeon usually works in partnership with
the general dentist, orthodontist, prosthodontist and pediatric dentist to make a comprehensive
treatment for a patient. Oral surgery encompasses tooth removal, placing dental implants,
treatment of facial trauma and facial pain, evaluation and treatment of pathologic lesions,
performing reconstructive and cosmetic surgery, and corrective orthognathic surgery which are
also done under general anesthesia or with conscious sedation.
