Sinus Lift Procedure
After an extraction, or when a person is ready for an implant in the area where back teeth used to be, the amount of bone needs to be assessed if it can accommodate an implant. When the bone is not enough, which is usually from losing a tooth from gum disease or from physiologic bone loss because of losing a tooth, a procedure called sinus lift can be done to lift the sinus membrane and add bone grafting materials which will bulk up the amount of bone in the area. Bone grafting materials can be taken from your own body, or from another source such as bovine or another person’s bone. Then the area is allowed to heal for about 6-9 months until such a time that the bone is hard enough to accommodate an implant.
